"What you need is a constant and consistent way of designing, not a style."
-Achille Castiglioni
Meaning 'saddle' in Italian, Sella is a sculptural design that reflects the innovative vision of the designers. Referring to one possible use of the iconoclastic design, Achille Castiglioni said "When I use a pay phone, I like to move around, but I also would like to sit, but not completely."
Sella features a black saddle of a racing bicycle with a pink lacquered steel column on top of a cast-iron base.
Achille Castiglioni's imaginative forms and simplistic designs have made him one of the most influential figures in Italian design. Founder of the Association for Industrial design in 1956 and recipient of numerous awards including seven Compasso d'Oro awards.
