Proust was originally created in 1978 for the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara. It was immediately recognized as an icon of twentieth century design and one of the most renowned and essential reference points in the quest for form and aesthetic perfection. Upholstered and hand-finished according to tradition, Proust preserves the forms of the original design. Proust is the re-edition of one of the most historic pieces of contemporary Italian design.
Born in Milan, Alessandro Mendini is the former director of Casabella, Modo and Domus. The winner of a Compasso d'Oro and designer of the Groninger Museum in Groningen, the Casino in Arosa and the Forum in Omegna. He is a designer, architect and image consultant for Philips, Swarovski, Swatch, and Bisazza.
Proust features a hand-carved and hand-painted massive beech wood frame, upholstered with a multi-colored fabric matching the colors of the structure. Available in two upholstery versions: PR/1 (light blue, grey & yellow) or PR/2 (black, green, red) multicolor fabric. Also available as Proust geometrica.
